The studio.
My haven.
Here I meditate, read, listen to the passions of Bach, the flights of lyricism of Arvo Pärt, the jam sessions of Coltrane…
This is the place for painting.
I was born here.
Outside: observing, learning, capturing. Inside: digesting, reflecting, contemplating. Landscapes become blurs, beaches become steppe, the oceans, deserts… Magmas of my life and of the time that goes by, crucibles of my emotions, paint spread, erased, covered up, made fluid. A charcoal pen traces and brushes lightly.
It perforates and caresses.
Tears, sperm and sweat, nose to the grindstone. I put pull out all the stops and do what I can.
Jean-Paul Laixhay,
Paris, October 2009
Pierce the surface and confront the core
where tensions pass, where the model suffers and offers up…
Seize the essential.
Painting is suffering and joy.
Painting is Love.
It tells us what can’t be told, the emotion, the surreal.
Beyond the pose, perceive the shape,
Understand the light, give the movement.
The body is knows no limits…
Jean-Paul Laixhay,
Delémont, 1999
Painting in the pasture, in full forest, in the Ardennes, amid the deafening calm of greenness… Even the air is green, so green that it blurs paths and clearings. As for the green underbrush, it casts black, mournful shadows. And would Laixhay paint himself there, in foliage so thick that the contours of the earth itself are no more? People will gather around to admire these “woods without numbers” pocked with clear spots. The true thickness of life, a stream of bright colours, bristles ceaselessly.
Jacques Izoard, February 2006
Robert Clévier, Coyotte, Krzysztof Środa, Monica Trenkler, Jean-Paul Laixhay.
Opening the december 5 from 18h30.
